My lights came on only after hitting the brakes fifty times or so in traffic. I don't think idling for 5 minutes should turn on the lights without also pumping the brakes.
I wonder if the pressure bomb is also affected by the heat. Perhaps there's a heat induced increase in the nitrogen pressure that gets so high that the pump cannot overcome it. Could be ridiculous theory. :-). The only other thing i can think of is boiling moisture in the brake fluid or boiling dot 3 brake fluid that can't stand the heat. Your recent flush should debunk that idea.
In the past I have experienced a stuck relay that allows the pump to run continuously, but I caught that and whacked the relay to free it up, and then replaced the relay.
