dirty job...use degreaser before you start...maybe twice!!
flush system before you replace rack to clean the pump and lines of stuff that could screw up the new rack
You should have good jack stands to get front end up high.
helps to have stubby 16mm and 18mm open end wrenches for the lines to the rack.
undo tie rod ends by loosening nut and whacking the steering knuckle/spindle eye with a hammer 6 times hard. joint will pop open. Crack lock-nut on tierod adjusting threads before you remove tie-rods completely from eye. Count the turns to unscrew the tie rod ends so you can replace to approximate alignment.
undo big mounting bolts from rack
Undo steering column u-joint from inside car...pull up rubber boot at firewall for access.
remove lines from rack...by doing this now, you can move rack around for better access to fittings. When you're installing new rack, put the fittings back on before you bolt down the rack...easier to start threads.
Turn the rack all the way to passenger side so you can rotate the rack and drop drop it down from driver's side. The pull extended tie rod out of passenger side and the rack is out. A helper is of great benefit at this last step.
Check for leaks at big hose to pump. If hose is hard, you can try a second hose clamp to stop leak, but a new hose is the answer, especially if the clamps keep stripping.
Wear old clothes protect your head from drips and wear glasses to keep the crud out of your eyes. Do the job in the daylight when you are not tired. Take breaks.
