pressure problem. This can be caused by leaks at fuel filter connections, fuel pump ck valve, fuel lines, FPR return line, and internal FPR/diaphram leak (pull top FPR vac hose, and either wait for a bit, after running engine; or apply ~+10 psi vac press to FPR nipple: no gas should come out). Can only speculate that pressing the gas pedal is changing the TPS, somehow affecting things
It's also possible (but I think less likely) that this is the start of an intermittent ignition fault, and the gas your smelling is flooding (and not a leak).
Dunno on the warning light afterglow: is your starter turning over at a good speed? Maybe just a general ck of your electrical system, including alt/batt, and grounds. How to info in archives
