When you put the seat in, you will notice that the seatback knobs have two different radials! one is fat and as you get closer to the seat, it flares down and gets smaller. all you have to do it shift the seat left first and when the u gets around the small part, the seat will drop in, do the same for the right (slide seat right) and that side will drop in. Now it is up to you if you want to reclip those silly metal things back on there. I didnt and I have never had any problems with my seat back.
Good luck, in my experience, banging stuff really hard just makes things more difficult. I hope you check this out before you go whacking your seat tomorrow!
