Maybe..
I also own a 1971 Volvo 145 S. She had this really strange mysterious illness. She would just shut down, everything..I mean just die out of the blue. No lights, no radio..wait for a bit and turn the key and away we would go. Tried everything, replaced much of ignition etc. When she "got sick" in nowhere wyoming in the middle of the night, and wouldn't re-start for anything, my husband dis-connected the after-market ignition booster that someone had installed years before. It was a "nothing else is wrong, how about this?" It worked, the booster was bad, and had slowly been going bad for years. Do you have anything like that on yours? Any after-market electrical component is the first place I would look.
What have you replaced?
I don't know if this helps, but sometimes it is nice to know that
1) you are not alone
2) yours isn't the only car who seems possessed
