Hi,

I have a 1988 900 T16S (Bosch, no kat.), European model, but I guess for the most part exactly the same as the SPG or Carlsson.

I haven't owned this cool Saab for very long (only 1300 miles), so I don't know much about it, since my other Saab's are 99's and 96's. Lately I notice white smoke coming out of my exhaust, not always but sometimes. Usually when sitting in traffic or waiting for a trafficlight with the engine being some what cool, but not cold, it's then been running for around 20 minutes, with no hard "performance" driving, so the turbo is very cool. Engine runs fine, turbo works good, there are no leaks, fluid levels are good, and it has only 113k original miles (180k km's), with 98 RON gas (I guess that's 93 in the US).

I noticed only two things, the engine doesn't start immediately, but after 2 seconds, maybe this is normal but compared to my "almost perfect" 99 EMS, which always starts immediately, it takes a fraction longer. Also the cold engine doesn't idle as nice as my 99 EMS. I'm not sure when the car had it's last total check and tune up so it might be releated to that. I hope it's not the turbo! It works and sounds fine.

What could this white smoke be? The white smoke comes out of nowhere and often dissappears as mysteriously as it came. Is this smoke serious enough for me to take my Saab to the shop first thing coming Monday??

Any help or info will be much appreciated, thanks!

Vince
