Well I was tryin to wire up a new ignition system as my current method of a screwdriver is gettin old and my wallet was getting thin. Has anyone tried to wire a new ignition before?
My plans were:
1 toggle for park
2 toggles for Run
1 hidden toggle for Lock (killswitch)
1 Starter button
I had this setup:
1 wire coming out of terminal 30 (along with the normal wires) that was junctioned to 5 other wires each going to a switch that would act as the circut closing mechanism (instead of using the keyswitch) I was then going to have the other wire from the switches going to the correct terminal on the terminal pad (right above the ignition switch) I used my Bentley (pg 371-7 or somthing) as my guide as to what switch would close what circut in each stage of starting (lock, park, run, and start).
Heres what happened:
I hooked up my wire from terminal 30 to three switches (park and run) and put the negative battery terminal back up. BAM, SMOKING AND BURNINATION from inside the cabin and I pulled the - terminal off.
So, Strange, Only One wire had its insulation melted and it melted all the way up to the switch. the other wires werent even really hot. also, the wire that I had coming directly from the terminal just burnt off from the flag clip. Nothing else.
Soooo, Is there anything I am missing here? should I find a way to drop the voltage? and would that affect my starting of the car?
THANKS So much for any words!
