The test procedure is only to find out if the AMM is REALLY bad, not the lean running condition bad.
And if the AMM is SO bad, the only thing you need to do is to disconnect the AMM and check if the car runs better, if it does, the AMM is at fault.
I have done a series of tests on lean running, bad AMMs. Non of them had any values that was sticking out compared to a good one both in bench tests and on the car.
The only way get a hint is to drive the car and measure the O2 sensor during acceleration. But it's an unprecise test.
I usually check that all other things on the car is in good shape, like vacuumhoses, fuel pressure, ignition parts etc etc. And then I try with a new AMM, if the car starts up and runs better from standstill, cold, I say that the old AMM was bad.
