it can be somewhat tested w/(cheap) hydrometer and DMM (do google search).
If batt more than ~2-3 yrs old (and not an Optima or similar), just replace w/new batt (probably easiest and best all-around solution). DON'T jump-start the old batt: if any life at all, ck electrolyte level, trickle-charge, then preferably load test
Other: carefully disconnect Hall-effect sensor (inspect/clean while there) at distrib, and crank engine for ~20 secs to circulate oil. Reconnect H-E sensor
Turn key to run position to ck that all dash warning lights that are 'sposed to come on (alt/batt light, CEL, SRS, ABS, etc), do indeed come on
