My '92 is leaking freon it still turns on, but does not cool very much at all anymore. It appears that the leak is past the o-rings and the one port on the back of the compressor - trace of oil there only, hoses and other joints look good as does the front seal. Anyway, this looks pretty innocuous but a rechange with R12 is outrageous at 60.00/lb. I want good cooling even at idle and have been doing a bit of reading on the web. The R134 conversions I have experienced can cool the car down when driving but at idle it drops off pertty quickly on a hot day. It seems that since the advent of R134, the compressors nor evaporators have changed, but condensers have changed a lot. (one data point is the 9k). It seems that the so called parallel flow condenser is what is prescribed. I am considering getting one of these (22.5W x 12H x .875 thick) and retrofitting it to my '92. It looks like a 26.5 would fit but would require cutting a couple of holes in the passneger side support to get the ports through. Any comments or sugestions? The sources I have looked at are Vintage Air and Hot Rod Air as well as ACKits and AC source. All have web pages if you are interested. If I do this and succeed, I will post here what I learn. These kits seem to use the Sanden 508 compressor which used to be fitted the early C900s as well. The mounting dimensions are the same as a SS170PS and they are a lot cheaper than a SS170PS at 200.00. My plan is to put new seals on the hoses to the SS170PS, flush, replace the condenser with a PF version, evacuate and charge with R134. If the compressor fails at some point in the future, then I'll consider a Sanden 508.
Thanks for any comments or suggestions,
Keith
