The fuel gage wasn't working until today

I put a new sender in. It's at about half a tank now, and this has happened since around 3/4. When I bought it the gage was on empty so I went to fill it up. It only took about 3 gallons so it was pretty full. I've only put about 80 miles on the car, and just started noticing it in the last 40 or so. I know that the car sat for quite a while, and I think the gas is old. I'll run it a few more miles and then put fresh gas in. I wonder if it would be worth pulling the fuel pump and checking the screen?
