Out of gas...now stalling 1989 900T

About a week ago the car ran out of gas. Managed to get it running enough to get it to the gas station. Filled it up and it started fine.
However, ever since then the car has been stalling intermittently. It doesn't buck or hesitate it just seems to shut off. Sometimes it actually takes you a few seconds to figure out that it has happened. It will occur when the car is cold, hot, at idle or at speed. The electrical system continues to function and the tachometer reads engine speed correctly (if the car is moving) even after the stall. The car can be restarted immediately- usually before it has rolled to a stop.
I would naturally suspect a clogged fuel filter or a dying fuel pump however the lack of any hesitation, bogging, loss of power or sputtering makes me wonder if it isn't something else. The car runs prefectly at all other times.Any thoughts or experiences?
