I wrapped mine.... Posted by JustinHiFi [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Exhaust Heat Wrap, MattVW, Mon, 4 Aug 2003 23:54:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On my 2.1L ('91 900S) i wrapped from the top of the exhaust manifold to the cat. This cooled the entire engine bay, and especially around the area of the innerdriver. Keeping the driver cool was my main intention to doing this.
I had the wrapping installed for 1 year 8 months intill I was driving up to school in December and the pipe where the manifold goes from 2 to 1 FELL OFF. So i was only running a 4 to 2 to 1 manifold! (It was VERY powerful, and equally loud)
Upon inspection, I found that the weld, not pipe, had rusted and eventually dropped the entire exhaust system down.
Well a tow to a local muffler shop (lucky I was in North FL still and not the freezing parts of WV, and it was 7am, not 3am when i left home) and I was back on my way. I have decided not to reinstall the wrapping, but to look toward other options on how to protect the driver from the extreme heat. I will post when I get it all together.
