C900 sputtering under accel question Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
1990 SPG, 2800 miles in past 7 days. Only about 200 miles before I get to meet Anders at Swedecar in LA for a little rear brakeline replacement.
On to the concern: I'm shifting at higher RPM's because my car seems to sputter a little while accelerating. I can't sort it out because the car isn't under normal conditions. Here's the differences:
Car is loaded to the gills and is very heavy
Today I drove through 117+ degree heat (Tuba City AZ to Grand Canyon to Barstow CA today)
I've been going up 6% grades in said hellish heat
I got a CE light in Utah with 2 codes, both for AMM, O2 Sensor, or vacuum leak. I swapped AMM's from a rebuilt one I put in before the trip, and things are 90% better. I was climbing a hill on I-40 and the car wasn't as happy as usual to haul up the hill. I wonder if the car is too weighted down, or the intercooler can't deal with 117 degree heat... It sputtered a little at 2500 RPM until I downshifted.
It's certainly better at night when the temp in the desert is *only* in the 90's. Plus a lot of crap is in the hotel room.
Should I worry, or should I just not take this car to the desert?
