Turn signal stuck on when headlights are on

Hi. My '88 900 turbo, 211k has an intermittant (but becoming frequent) problem in that the left turn signal lights up when the headlights are on. Doesn't flash, just stays on. All bulbs on the left are involved.
Turning off car or turning on/off turn signals doesn't help. Periodically, turn signal lights go off by themselves and will flash when requested, but behavior will randomly return.
Checked fuses (all fine) and replaced all rear bulbs and sidemarker (not front corner one yet, though)
No problems with right side.
All is fine when headlights are off, but can't drive at night without annoying other drivers.
Related info (maybe?): Recently replaced turn signal stalk w/one from a yard (same part #), but everything was fine 2 months post replacement. Cruise control quit suddenly one day pre-stalk replacement and still doesn't work.
Any thoughts as to where to start looking first? Thank you!
