Hello, my 1987 900 Turbo Convertible was an Ebay purchase last month. It's not perfect but I am a realist and didn't expect it to be. This is my 5th Saab (first convertible one). I have a question for those of you more knowledgeable than me on the convertible.
This car has a Saabgaurd alarm system that isn't working...I don't think. What I have discovered under the rear seat is 2 Saabguard components, one of which shows a red "power on" LED. But it looks like someone has spliced into the wiring. There is an inline ATC type fuse holder coming off the main Saabguard alarm unit. In my trunk behind the carpeting I found another unit that is a paging module, with no antenna hooked up to it. I have read the owner's manual that describes how the alarm is supposed to work. My alarm does nothing.
What I do have is this:
1) A small key fob that has a Saab sticker on it, a red push button and a red LED. This looks to be an alarm activation key fob. I'm afraid to put a new battery in it and press the red button for fear of what might happen! Any ideas?
2) On the back of the center console next to the emergency brake there is an on/off switch. Up under the front dash at the extreme left next to the hood release, is a large toggle switch. The previous owner explained (and demonstrated) to me that with the console switch "on" and the toggle switch engaged, the fuel supply to the engine is cut off. This is a nice anti-theft feature I guess but I'm wondering if it's factory or aftermarket.
Anyone have any ideas / advice? I'm one of those types who likes to have everything set up like it was OEM and likes to have everything on the car functioning, but what I don't want to get into is an electrical diagnostic and detective nightmare.....
Thanks,
Brian
