I had similar problem after replacing t-stat and doing a coolant system flush (so harder to pinpoint the problem since i messed with the whole coolant system). No apparent leaks but i have found the problem....
I'd bet your leak is at the thermostat housing. If everything doesn't match up exactly right, the system will leak here, and burn off/evaporate before you can see a leak on the engine or on the ground.
Way to test is to get a coolant pressure system tester (it's a 'loaner tool' at AutoZone) and pressurized the system with it (i think Bentley warns about not going over 17 lbs. of pressure, but double check the number). This simultes the pressure your system is usually under, but without the heat. I did this test and it was VERY easy to spot the problem. Even better if you can have an assistant look at various parts of the system while you pressurize it.
This is also a good way to see HG problems, for if the system won't hold pressure but there are no leaks (puddles will show up on the ground if there is an external leak since there is no heat to make it evaporate), then you can focus more on a HG issue.
I haven't fixed mine yet (i don't drive too often) but will likely tackle this in a week or so. My t-stat housing needs to be sanded down a bit with emory paper (so i've been told), as the fact that it's not totally smooth is why it's leaking.
Good Luck.
