Hey guys,

Preliminary information...
1990 SPG. 126k Miles. The following parts are all new; RRFPR, 8.5 Magnecors, NGK 7EVs, 30# injectors. Fuel pressure set to 40ish PSI. I also have a fuel rail-mounted fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure if necessary for testing.

Recently my car has developed a hard start/cranking problem. This mainly happens when I try to start it after a medium/long drive and when the engine is hot/it is hot outside. When I turn the key, and without keeping it turned, the car will stall out. When I keep the key turned (for a second or two), it catches and then it turns over. I can also start the car normally (without holding the key for a couple seconds) if I apply the gas pedal and rev it. I need to keep my foot on the gas for about 2 or 3 seconds for it to stay idleing by itself.

I've been searching this BB for help to determine the problem and all points to the fuel pump going bad. I've read the tests to see if the fuel pump is bad/dead, but mine isn't because it runs/drives normally.

Could anyone please give me any last minute advice before I spend the $70 for a new fuel pump.

This problem has been occuring for months and months now, but recently started to happen alot since it's been hotter here (90-100 degrees). I had my headgasket replaced (which needed to be done) and I thought that was the problem, obviously it was not. Out of the three mechanics I go to, none of them know what the problem is, and they're all very good otherwise. I want to finally get to the bottom of this and be done with it.

Thanks in advance!
Please email me if you need any more information at all!
Taylor
90 SPG

RIP Kyle & Tim
