That seal can be a bear to get out.
I bought a cheap 3' prybar and grinded the bottom of it to the rounded shape of the inside of seal.
That way I have about 3/4 of surface to pry on the seal.
If using a screwdriver, it usually cuts right through the seal without even trying to move it out.
You can also try to grind down a 1/2 round chisel into a 45 degree shape of the tip and place the tip on top of the seal and slowly hammer the chisel down and in between the seal and housing.
Be careful though so you don't damage the aluminum housing.
This way will collaps the seal into itself and make it come loose from the housing.
