Temp gauge flakiness - observation

Lately, my temp gauge has been reading about 1/4 lower than it should (89 deg, t-stat / 92 deg fan switch). I read the archives and most indicated the ground wire bolt on the gauge back or resistance from corrosion on the temp sender wire connection. What I gleaned from the posts was that the former would create symptoms of needle bounce or low reading. The latter would cause the gauge to read higher than normal.
Once again the fix was to backtrack my last foray into the engine and look to see if I knocked the sender wire loose. Turns out I had knocked it partially off the sender. The poor connection caused it to read lower than normal coolant temp.
Ahh, the satisfaction of a free and easy repair of a self induced problem.
