Hey guys.... did some searching on this topic over the last hour or so and found a great deal on this topic though the reponses vary greatly. It seems (and I sure hope not) that the auto tranny in our baby might be dying. The problem (in it's current state)seems like it would be easy to fix but maybe not. Here's whats going on:
1988 Saab 900 Turbo Conv 148K (new to us, do not have history on tranny)
smooth shifting 1-2
smooth shifting 2-3 (most of the time)
lately, it seems a little late going into third and just very recently if accelerating at a decent clip it will start to rev and delay shift when goig from 2nd to 3rd... it's only happened a few times and because it starts to rev up I've immediately backed off (its a reflex action) and then it shifts and runs fine.
so.....
1. is there something that needs/could try adjusting
3. is it possible to do something NOW considering it's been "caught early"
4. whats a tranny job run? say a saab indie shop (braces self)
5. is it recommended to do a swap to 5-speed, how much more does this run than the auto box rebuild? again, saab indie shop
Many many thanks in advance - I hope this can be easy and CHEAP.
