Most modern paints are urethane based. I would NOT recommend using these paints without the proper supplied-air respirator. Urethane hardeners contain some pretty nasty stuff which could cause long term lung damage. Besides, it does get expensive...you're easily looking at $50+ for the paint, hardener, and reducers...more if you need to clear-coat it. You're better off doing the prep work yourself, then taking it to a pro for the final color coats.
You could use a standard acrylic emamel. If it is a solid color it is not necessary to clear-coat it. Metallic colors are clear-coated.
