While there is a chance that you have a trans problem, e.g. synchros, you might be lucky and only need to replace the clutch assembly and pilot bearing in the flywheel. I agree with Yak on noise being throwout bearing.
If you get a crunch going into reverse when not immediately shifted from another gear, then I suspect the pilot bearing and possibly corrosion on the clutch shaft. When the clutch shaft get rusty and dry, the clutch disk hangs up and doesn't fully disengage. The result is moving transmission and reverse crunch. This can also affect forward gear changes, but to less extent. If no reverse crunch, then the crunching points more to a trans problem. You can sometimes get some more life out of balky trans synchros by using Redline MTL or Honda manual trans oil. Worth a try.
