Make sure the sliding surfaces in the caliper are clean and lubricated where they need to be.
Turning your rotors will very rarely kill squeal. Don't go there again. I just wore out a set of front rotors on my '88 (same braking system) and they did not squeal. They made a grinding noise as they wore past minimum thickness, but I got the hint and changed them. I expect 80K on a pair of rotors, and that's what I got out of these.
Stock pads are a great starter; if you are interested in performance then ask the SPeeGee guys about metalmasters, green stuff, etc. but for now, I use the stockies. I've descended long grades, done hard braking, and looked at my wheels for minimal dust and was satisfied in all three respects. I'm also at 50,000 miles on the fronts and they are around half to two-thirds worn. As far as I'm concerned, this is not where I want to save $20.
PBR makes a great aftermarket product, too, but recent iterations may include asbestos (fine as long as you don't inhale the fibers) or have changed to be asbestos-free and now they squeak. Case and point is Dad's wagon; he put recent PBR deluxe pads on all four and now they squeal. He doesn't care, but he should realize mom does...
It's not enough to turn heads though.
PBR Metalmasters are supposedly dusty but great at stopping the car, even in performance situations.
I hope this helps.
