During the process of finding the problem of intermittant loss of ignition on my '91 900T, I finally fixed the problem by installing used distributor. Having no assurance that the 'new' distributor would work at all, I used my timing light to determine where the timing was before I removed the old one. I couldn't find any timing marks; so, to be able to get the old one back in if the new one was bad, I scribed a mark on the distributor base and the cam cover. Installed the new one, aligned it to my mark and the same relative position to the flat on the dist. housing, and fired it up.

It ran, and with the light, searched anew for marks on flywheel. Rotated the distributor many degrees either direction, and can still not find any marks. Car runs fine.

I'm looking on the outside circumference of the flywheel thru the cutout in the clutch cover. That seems the only place I could see, what with all the piping, cooling hoses, etc. It occurred to me later that maybe the marks are on the FRONT (toward front of car) surface, rather than on the top (outer) surface. Any help out there?

Off the topic: Dear Administrator. It would be nice that when an append to a thread occurs, the entire thread was moved to the top of the index list. That way, a topic would get back to the first page when someone gets around to answering my question!! This may be a terribly non-trivial SMOP (simple matter of programming) but it surely would be nice.
