There ARE shims to be concerned about. Under the inner driver flange are a number of thin plates that are used to set the diff preload. There is a procedure to set it up correctly w/o getting into the trans. The spacing is dependant upon the driver carrier and diff bearing race posititions so you shouldn't just use a spare w/o setting things.
I'd just take the original driver/housing assembly, use a new bearing ($16 - SAABSTORY) transplant the driver from the spare to the original and be done with it. Then you won't need to worry about setting things.
The driver is held in by an external circlip inside the carrier. It will just push out of the driver bearing by hand.
The driver bearing is also a push fit into the carrier.
If the bearing has been wobbling for a while take a very close look at the driver shaft and bearing seat in the carrier. Either surface may be scuffed.
Check out Townsendimports.com for a complete procedure.
