The ignition module in in the place described by Micah. However, don't bother buying a SAAB unit. Get one from any 80's volkswagen ( rabbit, golf jetta etc.) They are identical electronically and can be had for as little as $15 from the junkyard.I think BMW units from that period are also the same. They are made by number of manufacturers: Bosch, Fairchild, and Siemens etc. If they have a 7 pin connector they will work. 16v or 8v doesn't matter. If you are getting them at the wreckers get the aluminum heat sink as well.On old VWs they are located in the windage tray (under the windsheld) on the drivers side.
I know because i just replaced a faulty one on my 89 900t 16v. The ony difficulty is that the mounting screw holes do not have exactly the same position. I had to do a little adapting to get mine installed. Not difficult though.
Let me know if you have any questions.
