well to start with the n/a will never have a lot of power but my experience has shown that the n/a engine can be driven to the limit with no issues of breakages. i.e. floor it and keep it there till up to speed, don't worry about rpm. my old 99 a/t use to get quite spritely actually. generally though low end perf problems are caused by timing/tune/air filter. give it a proper tune. fuel injector spray at low power also a culprit.
