What is concidered a master link type chain has an external connector.
The endless chains are made by using press fit side plates, then peening the rivits over the side plates.
I would not hesitate to put the master link type chain in place. You should only use the endless if you are taking out the engine anyway.
You may get slightly more life out of the endless type, but not enough to warrant the difference in installation price. Besides, if you were to ever wear out your second timing chain ( very unlikely) yopu could always roll in another master link type, and still be ahead of the labor for the endless type.
