Replaced the O2 sensor and the new one (oem) gives readings (bouncing around from .2 to .7 volts about 1 cycle / 3 secs). The performance was MUCH better and the rotten egg/gassy smell that the car had after being in the garage overnite was gone for a while.
It seems however that the computer has adjusted to the new sensor somewhat and I suspect it's still running somewhat rich. Even with decent gas, it knocks somewhat at low RPMS with a load (acceleration from a stop). More so with the A/C on and when the outside temp is warm.
I'm wondering if the AMM which has 120k on it could be somewhat out of whack. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the platinum wire in the AMM can get thinner as it's used resulting in a bad mixture. Does this sound likely?? Last time I check the amm for the glowing wire it did glow.
For reference, I just checked the LH computer and there are no stored fault codes and all of the tests were ok. Replaced all of the rubber grommets to the manifold/valve cover and checked all of the air hoses for leaks. The engine idles very smoothly and isn't altered much by either plugging the fuel pressure regulator vacumn hose or letting the open hose suck air. Removal of the o2 sensor wire makes a small change in rpms.
Thanks for any thoughts!
Bob
