There is no way to fix the column except replace with a known working part. When the columns start to move like that they are effectively colapsed. Minor bumps and or pushing your car by the steering wheel will do this. Ask me how I know... you're not going to hurt anything by driving it that way, I imagine that it will anoy the crap out of you eventually like it did me, and it also got a little dangerous after a while. So use your best judgement on time to replace it.
