I took everyone else's advice and got the HEPA cabin air filter on my car. Getting it in was another story.
The 8 valve PS pump is in the wrong place. I ended up hacking the AC evaporator into four pieces to get it out. The air filter doesn't have this problem because the plastic casing around it folds like an accordion to snake in the hole. The next person that tells me the C900 was designed for AC....
I took some creative pictures of the operation. E-mail me if you want to see some minor aluminum carnage.
Sorry Cliff, but that part number didn't work. I got 9479981 for the filter and rubberish cover. (It was in the OLD style Saab parts box, covered in dust! I looked at the box and said, "Best when used by April 1986?")
Upon inspection, the recirculation switch (which controls a servo for MY88) does not close the air intake flap, but switching the vent control to GaleForce (<=>) or Off (0) will close it. Yes, the vacuum line to the whatsit that actually closes the flap was reattached after the operation today. The recirc switch goes dark when depressed. I'm guessing a bad switch first? I use it quite a bit. I really don't want to go chasing a bad servo under the dash. I like having the switch for driving past the local sewage treatment plant or behind a stinky car.
My allergies are happier now- is that sort of new-carish smell? I like my Swede!
