I'm glad I could help. I'm usually end up learning more about SAABs than informing others about them, but I'm glad I could offer some useful SAAB-info this time!
Also, when I put the '83 900T junkyard light relay in my '84 900S, the relay had been sitting a long, long time. Several years. It worked only intermittently at first--sometimes the lights went out as soon as you shut the door, as if no relay were in place. Other times, it would go for maybe 5-10 seconds.
It works fine now. It took a few months of use to get the relay working at its (approx.) 15 second time delay. I don't know why exactly, but my hypothesis is that the relay's internal contacts were moldy/corroded/dirty/etc. after sitting during years of disuse. I come along, pluck the relay from the JY, and pop it in my car. Cycling of the relay on/off over several months' use burns off the corrosion/dirt on the relay's contacts EVENTUALLY and it works fine after that.
I don't know if that's electronically feasible, but it's a good anecdote to put in the ol' bean in case your relay/lighting acts up.
