Before replacing the rack, I'd make sure that the morning sickness is not a stiff U-joint. The hair dryer and wd40 trick has worked for me, when I thought the rack was going south. Just pull the boot up at the fire wall heat the u-joint up.
The other thing you might try is a good rack flushing. It got rid of the groaning noise when the pump was straining. If you have a mity-vac pump, you can also hook it up to the hard metal pressure line near the motor mount and "reverse" suck fluid directly out of the rack. This unclogged a spindle valve that had some stray rubber bits stuck in it.
If it's the rack for sure, one tip is to remove the two main rack bolts, tierod ends, and unhook the ujoint from the splined input shaft before you remove the fluid lines from the rack. By doing this you can move the rack around for better access to the line fittings on the rack. Also get a helper to assist sliding the rack back and forth when you drop it. The darn rubber boots on the tie rods hang up on the body if you're lying on your back under the car. Tall jackstands help alot, if you don't have access to a lift.
