whoops. you just caused ur self some extra work. vc gaskets use sealer ONLY on cutouts. there is one exception. i have found that gaskacinch does a very good job of mounting the gasket in the cover and it is a VERY thin layer. like a very thin high tack. i use it lots of places. in any case you have no option but to get another gasket and spend about a day cleaing out the vc. they have to be scrupulously clean. gasket remover works best but it takes off the paint. that is why i have a aluminum finish vc. i stripped the whole thing!. acetone and a SS brush is a good second. goof off also a good choice. so clean it clean it cleanit. head too and get the gasket to stick in cover. a model car type brush will put gaskacinch or high tack down for you, i am at the point where i use no sealer at all on any of it and get it to seal. makes cleanup a breeze but you have to practice the throwing motion abotu a billion times to get it all to drop in place. like flipping pancakes in a pan.
do not use anything on head surface except for cutouts and dist hole. put a VERY thin coat of ultra grey on those surfaces. assemble and get all the bolts in and finger tight. verify gasket is seated all the way around. then torque to 11 ft pounds. no more. no less.
it is a very particular job. good luck.
