I spent the weekend prone, 1/4" under my rack replacement job. Filthy, rotten job. Funny how it's just a couple bolts but frustratingly inaccessible. I spent the longest time trying to get the steering spindle back on the u-joint. It just wouldn't seat. Also, the boots on the new rack immediately pull right off on the first snag, making the zip ties useless. Miserable. At least it wasn't snowing.
Ok. I was following Townsend's instructions. They were rather detailed, but as always, I've love an addendum regarding all the hang-ups I encountered. At the end he discusses setting the toe-in and describes measuring from center of tire fronts as well as center of tire backs. What isn't mentioned is if this is performed with wheels on while the car is still up in the air, or on the ground and loaded. I dropped the car and adjusted while the wheels were loaded. The car tracks straight and I adjusted the steering wheel for center, but thought I'd double check with the board advice.
Thanks.
