Parts chains(pep boys) sell kits from Permatex for patching leather and vinyl. It uses a heat pencil with a small flat iron to cure the goop that you mix to the right color. The kit also comes with texture swatches that you place between the goop and the heating iron to match the grain of the leather or vinyl. I have successfully patched two Saab leather holes and the only hard part is matching the tan color. It's like mixing paint, and while they give you the proportions, it's still a trial and error process. The good news is that you can recoat the patch numerous times until you get it right. The trick is to mix a very small portion so you reserve enough to do over.
On a long rip/hole/break on vinyl side panel of a Chevy Tahoe seat, my attempt failed and took the car to a shop for replacement of the damaged panel - $125. Repair Kit <$10.00.
