You need to pull the rear seat belt mounting bolts, and possibly the rear package shelf. I redid mine when I had the rear shelf out, so I'm not sure. On my '86 I had to pull the door seal out in the area of the fixed window in the back door, at about 10 o'clock looking into the passenger door, 2 o'clock on driver's side. Once you've pulled this out about 4" and removed the seat belt bolts, it's a matter of sort of jiggling the sail panel up and towards the front of the car. If I had to do mine again, I'd get the sail panel material at least one shade darker than the headliner, as they are already starting to fade. Anyway, Permatex headliner glue, and your material of choice, and recovering them is pretty simple. If your replacement material is ribbed, make sure the lines go the direction you want, lay the panel on the fabric and freehand about 2" out from the edge of the sail panel with a magic marker (not a Sharpie!). I used less than one yard of fabric for both panels, just position them carefully before you start cutting. Then follow the directions on the adhesive can and put the pieces together. Once the front had dried, I folded the excess over on the back and glued it in place. Waiting to do this keeps the fabric from slipping around when you tug on the extra flaps. If you left less than 2" of extra, you might find gluing the flaps takes longer than gluing the front. Anywhere I had two layers of flap, I cut both corners at a 45 to keep the thickness uniform. I used an Xacto to cut a + where the seat belt bolt mounts from the back of the panel. When the whole thing is dry and pretty, slip it behind the rear window seal, starting from the bottom of the sail panel, and then position it so the seat belt bolt will go through, keep wiggling it around until is sits right. If there is too much fabric on the bottom, or you didn't cut it carefully, it will be a real pain to get down far enough to get the bolt in. That's your cue to take it back out and trim the bottom a little bit. Anyway, if and when it fits, reattach the seatbelt and press the door gasket back into place. I did a headliner, and both sail panels with 4 yards of foam backed fabric and two cans of adhesive. Total cost was about $45. That's it, I think...
I'm sure others will have more (less?) to add...
Good luck,
