Honda MTF - Cautionary gearbox tale for hard drivers

I just read a post reminding others that the Honda tranny fluid so many Saabneters are now using is not synthetic.
If you drive your car hard -- and by that I mean you are up at redline often, you downshift to 4500 RPM, and you flog your car daily -- then you do not want the Honda goo in your gearbox. It cannot handle the heat.
When my gearbox died recently, the post mortem implicated not only heat-related destruction of the pinion bearing, but to the ring and pinion as well. Bits of metal had flaked off the gear faces. The overall look of the gearbox appeared similar to what happens when the gearbox is driven without fluid: burnt, except my fluid levels were fine.
My rebuilder recommends Redline Shockproof in the Heavy Duty grade, and that any gear goo be changed regularly. My rebuilt gearbox with Redline shifts identically to the old one with Honda MTF except for a little balkiness in the morning.
Of course, like everything else on the internet, this is but one unscientific, amateur, anecdotal experience. As such, take it FWIW.
