Bought my first Saab tonight...advice needed

Greetings -
Saab newbie here, but an old hand with BMWs. My daily driver is an '87 M6 so I am not afraid to take risks ;) and before that various 1600-2s and 2002s. Tonight I bought a nice, clean '86 4 door for the heck of it. The price was right (i.e. very cheap), and I need a winter car. I also want something to fool around with.
Good: 128K, manual, very nice paint, great interior, nice wheels, sunroof, power, heated seats (didn't try 'em), ran perfectly.
Bad: exhaust needs to be replaced (the 12" or so from the muffler body to the pipe broke); alternator is slowly croaking; the stick shift SWINGS AROUND; clutch is exceptionally light (well, compared to an M6) and the engagement point is VERY low.
Exhaust I can do, alt. I can fix...as for the others...I read the archives and it seems as though there is a ball or cup that might have broken to cause the shifter to flop around. Does it have a name/part number? Does that sound like the right fix? Any special procedures?
The clutch seems like the slave might be going and/or the take-up needs to be adjusted (can it be adjusted?). Does that sound like a correct diagnosis?
I appreciate any and all advice. It's humbling going to a different car, but I always liked Saabs and look forward to my "new" one.
Thanks!
Dave
