If you turn the valve cover upside down you will see a black rubber pad right over where the timing chain rides.
That pad gets hard with years and miles and can create a knocking sound when T-chain gets older and slaps against the pad, P/N 7505845. Check part number on old one, it might be a chance that valve cover is of newer model and take the 89 and up guide P/N 8859324.
I replace the 4 long studs with the same shorter ones that is in the middle of exhaust manifold P/N 7985146 $6.30 each. Or buy the same studs from Volvo for half the price P/N 953048 $2.80 each.
Yes, remove block heater housing, clean out and install with new gasket. P/N 7523897
If you see a lot of corrosion on housing it might be a good idea to replace it too.
