Trogdor,
Hey, just saw your tranny post(s). I wonder, did you put the tranny side cover back on with the Idler Arm Bolt not fully screwed in? This might be the problem. It might have fallen out!
I'd leave the car WHERE IT IS and pull off that tranny side cover. It would be worth the trouble (in my book) to have peace of mind. (And I know that it's not very easy to do, since I did the Townsend fix on my '84S.)
Otherwise, the idler arm bolt and assembly could be floating around in the bottom of the transmission casing, ready to jam into a gear! That could prove both expensive AND hazardous!
If all is OK when you get the side cover off (I hope you can find and fish out that idler arm and bolt), I would put idler arm and bolt in place and tighten snugly--not too tight, as this is a rather small bolt. The problem you mentioned of not being able to engage reverse gear in your earlier tranny post might just have been gear mesh. I have to let my SAAB roll a bit (couple of inches) forward or backward to get the tranny to go in gear. If that's not the culprit, I'm at a loss.
Hope this helps!
