If you finally fix/replace it and are running higher wattage than stock bulb, you can make up a wiring harness along the lines of the one shown in this link: http://catalog.com/susq/other/headlamp.htm
I did this when I put in my ecode sealed beam conversion lights. I am running 80/100W bulbs with no problems. With this harness, the only current that goes through the stock relay is what is used to energize the remote harness relays and is quite small.
