Boost/Vacuum woes on 86 SPG...

I am the recent driver of a '86 SPG that my buddy (saabpilot) picked up on eBay for $500. We drove it from New Hampshire to Indiana with out any troubles, except for a bad drivers side wheel bearing which was replaced today. I took out the factory cruise control because it doesnt work, and simply put, I would never dream of using it. I had a bunch of problems with idle & boost untill earlier tonight when I realized I didnt plug the hole for the evaporative emissions cannister, which, as some of you may know, is a huge hole. Well, I plugged that, and she started idling like normal. Now my problem is that she will not boost high like normal (as far as normal goes...) She used to get about 5/6ths of the way into the yellow, and stop about 1/8" before the red. Now she will only go upto about 1/3rd of the way into the yellow, or about 1/4". Any ideas? I took out the 'y' fitting that went from the intake manifold to the factory APC/Turbo guage, and plugged the factory guage signal hose into the intake manifold itself, eliminating the 'y'. I haven't had a chance to check my intercooler piping because the car has been way too hot, or I didn't have enough time. I will be checking that tomorrow before I go to work. Does anybody have any ideas as to what might cause this problem? My obvious guess is a intercooler piping connector hose either a)has a hole in it, or b) I have a intercooler piping connector hose that has just plain popped off. Any help is greatly appreciated, I would like to eat some Hondas tonight.
Thanks,
Mike
