Mostly through the antenna drain.....look and see if there is a clear peice of tubing that empties into the trunk on the left side. Thats how water gets into the trunk. But...it should drain out through the two drains.
I know how you feel about rust. I've got a 1990 that was in my mind perfect until I started to uncover some rust. It just plain sucks. But, if it is caught early it can be fixed. Now is a good time to go ahead and give your entire car a good prodding and find any other rust.
I found rust in my rear wheel houses and the infamous lower front right control arm area. Had everything cut out and welded up. Right now I'm in the process of fixing some other small spots of rust myself with POR-15 products. This stuff is the best thing around for rust. It can't help you once there are big holes but it does stop rust dead if used properly.
