I had a similar problem last summer. It turns out that the replacement alternator that I installed was no good. I'm not saying that's what your problem is, however it might not be bad idea to have it checked at a Pep Boy's or Autozone just to rule it out. Other things to check:
There a 3 wires attached to the alternator:
Big Red one that goes to the starter
Grn / Wht one that's attached to the back is for the charge light circuit (this wire and the bulb in the dash instrument panel are essential for proper charging- if you don't see this light come on the dash when the key is in the run pos. your battery will not charge.)
Ground wire- The alternator housing must be grounded to the engine block or your battery will not charge correctly (actually I'm doubtful that the car would run at all w/o this) These frequently break loose due to vibrations.
Anyway, I would highly doubt that all your wiring became unusable all at once. While it's a good practice to get rid of corrosion from the grounding points, I would go back and check some of the areas I mentioned above.
Good Luck!!!
