Twinsaabs.com lays it all out pretty well.
Jackstands are fine, nothing less, though.
When I replaced mine, I found these things to add to the procedure
- Sometimes you're able to push the old river out of the bearing carrier with body weight. Other times, you'll need to get a press. I was lucky on the used parts I got, but not on the one in the car.
- Be careful not to rip the shims when you pry the bearing carrier out. Some of them are pretty thin.
- I found that the upper front few bolts were a bear to access. Ended up using a couple of universal joints and some extensions to be able to get them.
And you probably know this already - use new O-rings and seals.
