The transmissions are fundamentally the same, however the earlier trans. has an external linkage centering mechanism, and the inner drivers are different. Other than those 2 issues, it should work fine.
IIRC, the earlier turbo is rated for .5 psi less (5.0 psi vs. 5.5 on '87 and beyond). I believe the APC system is different too.
Forget the brakes they're different, and the PS rack really isn't worth the effort of removing given the cost of a rebuilt one IMHO.
The dashboard switches are different on '86 and beyond (except headlight switch). The rest of the interior components should be compatible. All the glass is the same. Rear tail lights are the same. Alternator should be the same (the pulley might be a single belt though on the '84).
