I was breathing in coolant fumes for over a year with an aftermarket valve.
I eventually replaced it with one I rebuilt... I disassembled the heater valve, and replaced the offending "o" ring with a new one and greased it up with silicon grease. Search my postings on saabnet for heater valve rebuild.. posted it about 6+ years ago? Cost of the "o" ring was 25c. (make sure the replacement o ring is coolant compatible). This is akin to replacing the o ring in your tap instead of replacing the tap when it leaks.
