Lousy time to be diagnosing these things.
The hall effect sensor connector on the side of the distributor is a weak point - it deteriorates from the heat. If it pulls away from the distributor, the ignition amplifier won't get the trigger signals it needs.
Ignition amp is also a failure point. However, since you're smelling unburned gas out the tailpipe, I'd suspect that either the carbon button on the distributor cap has failed, or that the FPR diaphragm ruptured and it's dumping gas into the intake manifold through the vacuum control line.
Pull the vacuum line and see if it's dumping gas through that.
